Equipped For Extreme Adventures, Ford Presents The Expedition Timberline Off-Grid Concept
Built for more extreme adventures, debuted along with the Overland Expo East in Arrington, Virginia, the Blue Oval presents the Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept vehicle.
This one-off model is based on the brand’s new 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline series, the most off-road-capable Expedition ever.
It comes with top-notch off-road hardware and accessories for adventurers to confidently trek hard-to-reach mountainside trailheads, remote lakes and distant desert dunes.
Ford’s Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept program manager, Robert Varto, commented, “The Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept provides a futuristic view of how family adventurers can potentially get even more out of an Expedition Timberline, including the absolute best mobile basecamp.”
To begin with, the Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept is focused on multi-day off-roading functionality and ease of use.
Most noticeable is the SUV’s raised stance, custom DeeZee Rock Rail Hoop Steps, and unmistakable CG Detroit custom topographic wrap over factory Forged Green exterior paint.
Furthermore, the 2022 Ford Expedition in its original form already has the best available ground clearance in its class, which measures at 10.6-inches.
On the concept, it adds another two inches with custom FOX Performance Elite Series 2.5-inch shocks with Dual Speed Compression adjusters and remote reservoirs front and rear.
That’s not all, it also adds on 17-inch Method Race Wheels with Bead Grip technology wrapped in 35-inch General Grabber all-terrain tyres.
Besides that, to ensure the best mobile campsite, the Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept leverages Ford’s Outfitter collection with dealer-available accessories.
E.g., a Thule Tepui Explorer tent with crossbars, a factory-ready transmission shield, Overland Vehicle Systems’ Nomadic 180-degree awning and a WildLand portable privacy room shower.
Illumination-wise, a 50-inch Rigid light bar is mounted above the windshield with an additional Rigid 20-inch light bar below the grille.
Meanwhile, D-SS Rigid side shooter cube lights are installed atop the hood, along with Rigid spotlights mounted and illuminating the areas within the wheel wells and liftgate.
Diving inside, the interior of the Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept comes with an EZ STAK custom aluminium dual storage drawer unit that sits under a custom Luno camping mattress.
Then, to make sleeping in the concept vehicle even more comfortable, Luno also provides a concept-specific Base Extender, window shades and portable USB fan.
Interestingly, to ensure this concept vehicle can handle electric loads needed at off-the-grid campsites, a Clarios AGM battery specifically designed for vehicles is installed.
Adding to the list of equipment, the concept also comes with a Turtleback Expedition Series Trailer, which is the largest trailer in the Turtleback line-up.
The trailer matches the Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept with Method brand wheels and Grabber all-terrain tires.
Said trailer is designed to hold additional gears such as a two-burner propane stove, deep-well sink, two drop-down tables, 159-litre water tank, 6-litre water heater and a pancake propane tank.
As if that’s not enough, additional options are also available. They include a refrigerator and a 100-watt solar panel.
Overall, with the Expedition Timberline Off-Grid concept vehicle, Ford is elevating the SUV game to another level, making it to have adventure-ready capabilities.
