792km On One Charge! The RM274,888 Mercedes CLA 250+ Is Officially M’sia’s Longest-Range EV Under RM300k

Launched at The Exchange TRX, the new CLA 250+ AMG Line arrives as a sole, high-spec variant priced at RM274,888. Generating an astonishing 792 km (WLTP) from a single charge, it officially becomes the longest-range EV under RM300,000 in Malaysia, delivering near-identical distance capability to BMW's RM399,800 iX3 for over RM100,000 less.
It easily outclasses minimalist rivals like the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD by elevating efficiency with true German prestige, 800V charging, and progressive dual-AI tech. Here is your breakdown of Malaysia’s ultimate long-distance electric coupé.
1. Drivetrain & Range: Efficiency Champion
Built on the brand-new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA), the CLA 250+ features an innovative rear-axle Electric Drive Unit (EDU 2.0) paired with a two-speed transmission. Gear 1 (11:1 ratio) provides immediate, responsive acceleration for urban driving, while Gear 2 (5:1 ratio) maximizes efficiency and refinement at high highway speeds.
- Motor Output: 200 kW (272 PS) / 335 Nm torque
- 0–100 km/h Acceleration: 6.7 seconds
- Top Speed: 210 km/h
- Battery Capacity: 85 kWh usable (NMC chemistry)
- Claimed WLTP Range: Up to 792 km (748 km equipped as specified for Malaysia)
- Energy Consumption: As low as 12.3 kWh / 100 km
To further extend battery performance, the CLA includes a powerful regenerative braking system capable of up to 200 kW recuperation, supporting one-pedal driving all the way to a complete stop.
🔍 LUXURY VS TESLA: While the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD is the CLA's closest rival on price and range, the Mercedes offers a far more lavish cabin experience featuring the triple-display MBUX Superscreen, 64-colour ambient lighting, 101-litre frunk, and premium materials throughout.
⚠️ RANGE CONTEXT: BMW's iX3 50 xDrive M Sport Pro remains Malaysia's overall longest-range EV at 805 km (WLTP), but it costs a steep RM378,800 to RM399,800. The CLA 250+ gives you a near-identical 792 km range while saving you over RM100,000!
2. 800V Architecture & Charging Infrastructure

The CLA is the first electric Mercedes-Benz built on an 800-volt electrical architecture, setting a new standard for fast-charging capability in this segment.
| Charging Type | Maximum Rate | Charging Time / Performance |
|---|---|---|
| ⚡ DC Fast Charging (800V) | 320 kW | 10% to 80% in 22 minutes +325 km in 10 mins |
| 🔌 AC Charging | 11 kW | 0% to 100% in approx. 9 hours |
Note: The Malaysian-spec CLA 250+ does not feature the optional 400V DC step-up converter, meaning it will not support 400-volt DC fast chargers such as Tesla Superchargers.
Along with the vehicle, MBM launched the MB.Charge Public service, allowing drivers to authenticate and automatically bill charging sessions across over 3,000 public chargers in Malaysia.
3. Exterior & Dimensions: Aerodynamic Sensual Purity

Retaining its fastback silhouette, the CLA 250+ boasts a class-leading drag coefficient of 0.21 Cd. The AMG Line exterior package adds aggressive front and rear bumpers, aerodynamically refined 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels, and flush pop-out door handles.
Key Exterior Highlights:
- Illuminated Grille: Features a large illuminated center tristar surrounded by 142 smaller chrome-effect stars.
- MULTIBEAM LED Headlights: Includes star-shaped DRL signatures and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus.
- Bigger in Every Dimension: The all-new CLA grows significantly over the outgoing C118 model. It measures 4,723 mm long (+35 mm), 1,855 mm wide (+25 mm), and 1,468 mm tall (+29 mm). The wheelbase also gets a generous 61 mm boost (now 2,790 mm) to unlock extra rear seat space.
- Storage & Frunk: While rear boot capacity drops slightly to 405 litres, the CLA introduces a massive 101-litre front trunk (frunk), a first for any Mercedes EV.
4. Interior Luxury & MB.OS: The Dual-AI Revolution

Inside, the CLA completely eclipses minimalist competitors like Tesla by delivering a true high-tech luxury environment. The dashboard is dominated by the floating MBUX Superscreen, featuring a 10.25-inch instrument display flanked by twin 14-inch central and passenger touchscreens.
Running on the new MB.OS (Mercedes-Benz Operating System), the MBUX Virtual Assistant becomes the world’s first system to integrate generative AI from both Microsoft ChatGPT (for general conversations) and Google Gemini (for navigation and point-of-interest queries).
Cabin Features:
- AMG Line interior with flat-bottom Nappa leather sports steering wheel featuring physical rocker and roller switches.
- Heated power-adjustable sports seats in ARTICO synthetic leather and MICROCUT microfibre.
- Fixed panoramic glass roof with heat-reflecting Low-E and infrared coatings.
- THERMOTRONIC auto climate control with rear air vents, 64-colour ambient lighting, interior selfie/video camera, and 8-speaker sound system.
5. Safety & Assistance Systems
The CLA 250+ comes standard with 8 airbags (including a driver knee airbag and a segment-first front-centre airbag) and the MB.Drive Standard ADAS suite:
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) & Evasive Steering Assist.
- Distronic Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go.
- Lane Keeping Assist & Blind Spot Monitoring with Collision Avoidance.
- Traffic Sign Recognition & Park Assist with 360-degree Camera.
Note: Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features like Lane Centring Assist and Autonomous Lane Change require an MB.Drive Assist subscription, priced at RM169/month, RM1,690/year, or RM4,059 for three years.
