Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the official distributor and importer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Malaysia, has announced a safety recall for specific models produced from 2004 to 2016 to replace its faulty Takata airbags.

A total of 10 models are involved in this recall, which includes -

- W203 and W204 (C-Class)

- X204 (GLK)

- C207 (E-Coupe and Convertible)

- W212 (E-Class)

- W164 (ML and GL-Class)

- W251 (R-Class)

- R171 (SLK)

"The safety of our customers is our top priority. In mid-2019, we have decided to execute a worldwide recall of the affected models of  Mercedes-Benz Cars, Vans and MB Trucks. We continue to work closely with the authorities and Joyson Safety System (successor organisation Takata) to exchange the latest findings and insights.

"All presently produced MB Passenger Cars are no longer equipped with Takata (or other manufacturers') airbags which base on ammonium nitrate as the primary propellant," It said in a statement.

Mercedes-Benz owners can check their vehicle VIN on the Mercedes-Benz microsite http://mb4.me/airbagrecall or by calling its customer care centre at 1800-88-1133 to confirm if their car has been identified for this voluntary monitoring programme. Please take note that the replacement of the airbag (if needed) is free of charge.
