- Mercedes Invents The ‘Floating Ball’ To Control In-Car Functions
Mercedes-Benz has revealed its recent revolutionary technology in the infotainment system that will blow your mind!
The German manufacturer recently applied for a patent with the World Intellectual Property Office to patent the future controller of the multimedia system that will equip its models, which will float above the centre console in the form of a crystal ball!
Forget about the voice commands, touch controls and even the holograms because Mercedes Benz is taking car manufacturing technology to a whole new level.
The Stuttgart-based manufacturer is currently working on a technology aimed to deliver its future models with a controller in the form of a crystal ball “mounted” above the centre console that floats in a magnetic field and helps the user navigate to the vehicle’s function menu.
Carbuzz.com was the first to have insight into the sketches and pictures and the description attached to the Mercedes patent. According to the documents submitted by the Germans, users can actively operate the device, which is designed like a ball floating in a controlled magnetic field.
A primary sensor could control the floating ball to detect the user’s hand movement using other light, motion, proximity sensors and a gyroscope sensor.
Those from Mercedes-Benz presented the 141 cm MBUX Hyperscreen Curved Screen System with no less than 56 inches for the first time in the EQS electric sedan.
The new S-Class sedan has also been given a head-up display, the functions of which are controlled by artificial intelligence and which can display a virtual image 10 meters in front of the car on which all information, including navigation, is projected.
