- Limited Edition G-Class Gets Moncler Touch From NIGO
Mercedes-Benz revealed a new chapter in its collaboration with Moncler, debuting the limited-edition G-Class Past II Future at the "City of Genius" show in Shanghai. This exclusive model, designed by fashion icon NIGO, is a modernization of a 1990s G-Class, combining classic design with contemporary luxury.
The unique artwork "Project G-Class Past II Future," which has sparked a new limited series, exemplifies NIGO's imaginative vision for the G-Class. Along with distinctive design features like a foldable windscreen and a spare wheel mounted on the back, the updated G-Class boasts a sleek, two-tone olive green and grey exterior with black and gold accents. Gold and orange accents connect the car to the joint fashion collection, while the checked seat upholstery inside the cabin honors the past.
The G-Class Past II Future is a unique addition to Mercedes-Benz's 45-year G-Class heritage, with only 20 units to be produced. This limited-edition car attempts to combine innovation and nostalgia, demonstrating how NIGO's modern appeal has been shaped by its reimagining of 90s urban culture.
“For me, the 90s were among the most influential decades from a cultural and creative standpoint. Electronic music and the hip-hop scene arose as a new expression of urban character. I wanted to integrate that vibe and energy into the design of the Project G-Class Past II Future by interpreting that legacy for a new contemporary era," said NIGO.
The Past II Future G-Class, which is scheduled to begin deliveries in April 2025, comes in two versions: the diesel-powered G 450 d and the gas-powered G 550. This decision represents a conscious break from the AMG-spec G63's emphasis on performance.
The G 550 has a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six mild hybrid engine that produces 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the G 450 d has a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six that generates 362 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.
