Perodua Targets 30,000 Units Registration In December – At Least 240,000 of registration In 2022
Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua), the largest national carmaker, has aimed to hit its highest monthly registration in history with more than 30,000 units to achieve the company’s 200,000 units target.
Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad apologised for a slightly under-delivery of 20,299 units in November due to intermittent disruption that has impacted production.
“We wish to apologise for the delay in delivery and thank all our customers for their support and patience, especially in the most challenging year so far,” Zainal said.
Perodua registered 20,299 units for November despite supply issues as the local automotive ecosystem. Meanwhile, on a month-to-month comparison, Perodua sales decreased by 27.1 percent from 27,858 units registered in October 2021.
The company has received 14,600 orders for the newly-launched Myvi. On a year-to-date basis, Perodua registered 42,288 units of the Myvi model between January and November this year.
For its overall sales, Perodua recorded 167,250 units between January and November this year, which is a reduction of 14.2 percent compared to 194,980 units registered in the same period a year ago.
Perodua has planned to increase its sales target by 20 percent to 240,000 units next year. However, the exact number will be announced later in January 2022.
“We believe that the worst is behind us in terms of Covid-19 related lockdowns–Insya Allah – and while there are other risks in the market, we foresee the year 2022 as a year of recovery.” Zainal expressed.
Zainal foresees at least 240,000 of registration next year as the market is back to normal, allowing the waiting period to reduce significantly. This is due to the government’s sales tax exemption incentive for the first six months of 2022.
The target is to align with their goal to grow the Malaysian automotive ecosystem with auto component purchase to be back to around RM6.5 billion for next year.
