- Dong Feng Honda To Build An Electric Vehicle Production Plant
Honda, in collaboration with its Chinese JV, Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd., announced their strategic plan to build a new dedicated electric vehicle (EV) production plant, which production is to begin in 2024.
With an annual production capacity of 120,000 units, the new dedicated EV plant will be built in Wuhan Economic Development Zone in Hubei Province, China.
According to Honda, the new plant will undergo complete processes for EV production, including stamping, welding, painting, assembly and full vehicle inspection to ensure that it is capable of bearing start-to-finish EV production later.
To achieve an ‘industry-leading level of automation, mainly in the assembly area’, Honda will strive to keep the dedicated EV plant up-to-date with advanced facilities.
As Honda is targeting carbon neutrality by 2050, the new plant will also ‘proactively pursue sustainability initiatives, which will include the utilisation of renewable energy sources such as solar power toward the realisation of carbon neutrality, use of recycled water and other resource conservation measures and reduction of VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions, a significant source of air pollution.
