- UMW Toyota Welcomes Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
In honouring Malaysia and Japan diplomatic relations for years, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited our nation to celebrate the 65th anniversary of this establishment.
This visitation is also to celebrate 40th years of the Look East Policy (LEP) since first initiated in 1982 targeting at social and economic development in Malaysia through learning from Japan.
UMW Toyota Motor welcomed the former Japanese Prime Minister and his delegates at the car marque’s facility hub in Bukit Raja which currently produces several Toyota models such as Yaris, Vios, Corolla Cross and the Corolla Cross Hybrid Electric Vehicle.
“His visit is extremely valuable to us and timely, as he was able to witness for himself the exciting transformation of Malaysia’s automotive sector towards sustainable mobility through the introduction of Toyota’s Hybrid Electric Technology, which is an essential step to quickly propel Malaysia towards the goal of Carbon Neutrality.” said president of UMW Toyota Motor, Ravindran K.
The new Corolla Cross Hybrid debuted recently as the first locally manufactured Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) with the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform at their centre which inspired it to become an Energy Efficient Vehicles (EEV) manufacturing facility.
“Along with our partners in Malaysia and Toyota Group Companies, Toyota will continue to take a leadership role to contribute to the development of the Malaysian automotive industry, as well as developing human resources and the environment towards fostering a sustainable society,” he added.
