The First-Ever Jeep Electric SUV Has Been Unveiled, And It Will Go Into Production In 2023
The Stellantis Group is creating another milestone in its electrifying portfolio by making plans to use iconic brands such as Lancia and Opel to create specialised EVs in order to conquer more niche segments.
This is after the announcement of the grand debut of the fully electric Ram EV which will be available in 2024 to compete with the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado EV.
Furthermore, it hopes to use the Dodge brand to electrify the car segment. It is currently testing an EV strategy in the United States with its Jeep plug-in hybrid powertrain for the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe.
Surprisingly, the whole world now knows that the brand will launch a fully-electric SUV early next year, and Jeep has released the first official photos of the new model!
With its compact body style, floating roof design, modern interpretation of the Jeep grille, and plastic body cladding, the design presented to us appears to bear many similarities to the Compass.
A satin silver anti-scuff plate, slim LED headlamps, and a nice set of alloy wheels round out the package.
Apparently, the Jeep EV will be one of the frontrunners in the company's goal of reaching net carbon neutrality by 2038. The group claims that by 2030, it will have reduced its global carbon footprint by half and will have a mixed battery electric vehicle sales ratio of 1:1 in the United States.
One of its most audacious goals is to be ranked at the very top of customer service syndicated surveys. With these in place, it hopes to achieve double-digit profit margins compared to last year's revenues.
Unfortunately, no official specs or additional details have been released for this exciting new electric Jeep, but if it intends to reach a global launch date of the beginning of next year, information should be released to the public fairly soon. So, stay tuned!
The upcoming product may use the STLA Medium platform, based on its dimensions and projected release date of 2023. These were initially intended for future Alfa Romeo products and were said to have a battery range of approximately 435 miles.
CEO Carlos Tavares explains at the Stellantis Strategic Plan Presentation, "Jeep's core brand attributes will be enhanced by electrification: capability, open-air freedom, fun, and style. This new model, which will be available in the first half of next year, is the first in a comprehensive fully electric Jeep lineup that will cover every SUV segment by 2025."
Stellantis says that after this Jeep, it will release a Ram commercial van in 2023 and a light-duty truck in 2024. In 2024, Jeep will release a pure off-road UV and lifestyle family SUV.
Dodge's EV muscle cars will end 2024, followed by a series of family cars from Chrysler in 2025. By 2030, we can expect more than 25 battery electric vehicles.
We can also expect the introduction of a Level 3 STLA AutoDrive hands-free, eyes-off advanced driver-assist system in the 2024 lineup. Waymo delivery vans will be outfitted with Level 4 and 5 systems.
Commercial vehicles are an important part of its long-term global strategy. It plans to launch 26 new products and have a fully electrified offering in the United States by 2027.
