A passenger car carrying a family of four, including two children, burst into flames and rolled backwards down the road of Genting Highlands and stopped after hitting a Multipurpose Vehicle (MPV).

According to China Press, a Chinese newspaper, the vehicle driver stopped the car when he noticed the fire coming out from the engine bay and screamed to the wife and two children to get out.

The family quickly grabbed their belongings and exited the car before it started rolling backwards down the slope.

A video of the incident showed the car sliding about 50 metres down the road as other vehicles and pedestrians manoeuvring out of its way before the car collided with an MPV that couldn’t avoid it.

The Malaysian fire department confirmed that nobody was hurt in the accident at about 1.45 pm. It takes an hour to put out the flames.

At press time, the department’s forensic unit is investigating the cause of the fire.
