Broadening its portfolio of electrically powered vehicles, BMW presents its first fully electric 3 Series for the Chinese market.

Rolling out in May of this year, the BMW i3 eDrive35L is the perfect fit for the particular requirements of Chinese customers.

Generally, it is based on the successful BMW 3 Series, which led the premium-compact segment in China last year.

To paint a picture, with a 2,966 mm wheelbase, which is 11 cm longer than a standard 3 Series, the new i3 eDrive35L’s total length of 4,872 mm provides a spacious cabin.

The all-electric four-door sedan offers all the sporty driving dynamics, long-distance comfort and wide range of personalisation options for which the BMW 3 Series is so well known for.

Making it a unique offering in the premium-compact segment, a high level of build quality, service quality and longevity are likewise standout characteristics of the i3 eDrive35L.

Speaking of which, the i3 eDrive35L comes with all the latest BMW Gen5 eDrive powertrain components already familiar from the BMW iX3, BMW i4 and BMW iX.

Its powertrain has a maximum output of 210 kW, a maximum torque of 400 Nm and does 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds.

As for its energy consumption, it rates at 14.3 kWh/100 km and its high voltage battery capacity of 70.3 kWh is able to provide a range of 526 km.

In terms of the charging power, it supports a DC charger with a 95-kW rate and an AC charger with an 11-kW rate.

Charging time, from 10 to 80 percent state of charge (SOC) with DC takes up to 35 minutes, of which after only 10 minutes gives a 97 km range.

Fine tuning of the i3 eDrive35L’s suspension systems to Chinese road conditions has also been carried out by the BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. R&D division in Shenyang.

Besides that, they have also adapted some of the car’s other componentry to the requirements of the supply chain in China.

Plus, the BMW OS8 operating system and a wide range of cutting-edge digital features and services like the high-end connectivity and Digital Key, are making their 3 Series debuts as well.

That said, the BMW i3 eDrive35L is assembled exclusively for the Chinese market at the BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. plant in Lydia, Shenyang.

All in all, with the i3 eDrive35L, the brand’s portfolio of fully electric cars now comprises six models, and the BMW Group is aiming for full EVs to account for 50 percent of its global sales by 2030.
