Developed to provide an experience that bonds the driver with the car, Mazda presents its first battery-electric vehicle (BEV), the 2022 MX-30.

Newly launched, the MX-30 is Mazda’s third new-generation model that explores a new ‘Human Modern’ approach of the brand’s design philosophy, ‘Kodo-Soul Of Motion’.

The SUV’s improved exterior retains a beautiful, handcrafted form akin to previous Mazda models for the base design, while also exploring new looks.

It has been accurately moulded into a simple shape, accentuating the new MX-30 as a single, solid unit, with freestyle doors that gives its cabin a sense of space.

In terms of colours, the single-hued include Polymetal Gray and Machine Gray, while the two-hued get Jet Black Mica with silver roof pillar, and Zircon Sand and Soul Red Crystal with black roof.

Next, there is also the use of unique materials, which centres around the theme of sustainability. Most noticeably, in its interior.

Elegantly laid out, it now features door grips that use cork, one of the most highly renewable and eco-friendly resources, harvested from tree barks without having to cut them down.

Additionally, the interior’s door trim also applies the usage of fibres that are made from recycled plastic bottles.

Then, the seats come in fabric and leatherette upholstery equipped with eight-way power, two-way lumbar adjustments, and two-position memory function for the driver.

Elsewhere, it gets a new floating centre console that comes with an electronic shifter with multi-function commander knob and shortcut buttons.

Notably, this setup allows the driver and passenger to safely operate the 8.8-inch Mazda Connect Infotainment system, which also supports a 360-degree view monitor.

To enhance the ambience, equipped is a 12-speaker Bose sound system with a speaker layout that adopts the Mazda Harmonic Acoustics audio setup.

Performance-wise, the MX-30 underpins newly developed technologies, such as the SKYACTIV-Vehicle Architecture that helps to improve the driving experience.

Plus, it also adopts Mazda’s new electric-drive technology, e-SKYACTIV that combines outstanding response with smooth dynamic characteristics.

Harbouring in its chassis is an electric motor with a front-wheel drive setup, generating an output of 107 kW/143 hp and a maximum torque of 271 Nm.

Paired to a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, it provides a range of up to 199 km. Said pack can be charged up to 80 percent within 36 minutes using a DC fast charging of 40 kW.

Speaking of which, both an AC charger and a DC fast charger are offered, and the rear fender charging port allows charging to be done while keeping a natural standing posture.

Interestingly, the MX-30 is installed with a refrigerant cooling system that cools the battery pack when the temperature rises, hindering any unnecessary heat.

Furthermore, thin cooling tubes attached to the bottom plane of the battery module connect to a heat exchanger, which results with a compact-sized battery pack.

What’s more, a sensor constantly monitors the battery’s temperature and controls the flow of coolant as needed.

Thus, the cooperative control between the air-conditioning and battery cooling systems achieves effective cooling performance for both systems.

Other than that, it features Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) system that utilises the powertrain to improve chassis performance.

Though for the MX-30, it has evolved into e-GVC Plus, which leverages the torque characteristics of the e-motor to optimize the front-rear load shift for a wider range of driving scenarios.

For every speed range and in every driving situation, whether the driver is cornering or making steering corrections on straight roads, the system achieves smooth and seamless transitions.

Significantly, between longitudinal, latitudinal and vertical G-forces, delivering a whole new dimension of smooth vehicular behaviour.

Safety-wise, standard in both of its variants, the new MX-30 comes with Mazda’s i-Activsense Advanced Safety Technology that features a suite of sensors.

E.g., Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Driver Attention Alert (DAA) with Driver Monitoring and Lane-keep Assist System (LAS).

Meanwhile, the MX-30 High variant gets additional Adaptive LED Headlights (ALH), Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA), as well as Cruising and Traffic Support (CTS).

Pricing-wise, now available for booking, it starts from RM 198,780 with a 5-year manufacturer warranty or a 100,000 km mileage, whichever comes first.

On top of that, its EV battery warranty coverage spans up to 8 years or 160,000 km, also whichever comes first.

That said, the 2022 Mazda MX-30 is a CBU model, meaning it is fully assembled and imported from Japan.
