Keeping Up With The Electrification Revolution, Ferrari Expands Maranello’s HQs For EVs
The EV trend is booming ever so quickly, and to keep up, Ferrari is gearing up for a big change by adding electric vehicles to its line-up starting from 2025.
Following that, a new strategy outlining the company's electrification strategies for the coming decade is slated to be announced by chief executive officer, Benedetto Vigna on June 16.
Reported by Bloomberg, the move forward includes a major expansion of Ferrari's plant and headquarters in Maranello, Italy, to support production of electrified vehicles.
It is also stated that Ferrari has purchased land adjacent to its plant, which will eventually be used for a 3rd assembly line dedicated to EVs, hybrids and to house a battery R&D centre.
This further solidifies Ferrari chairman, John Elkann’s claims last year that a Ferrari EV will be launched in 2025.
Presumably, said first EV is expected to be an SUV, but leaked patent drawings suggest Ferrari is also formulating electric supercars.
More so, this possibility could be a sure thing, especially with the European Union setting to ban the sale of vehicles with an internal-combustion engine and hybrids by 2035.
That said, the new and not to mention bold direction forward to be announced this week will be the first for the new Ferrari CEO, Vigna.
In brief, Vigna is a veteran of the semiconductor industry, who joined Ferrari last fall and has been tasked with helping the company build up its proficiency.
Namely in the areas of electrification and connectivity, while steering away from the brand’s focus on big engines.
