First Of Five Ready For Delivery, The Zagato Mostro Barchettas
Zagato, a Milan-based independent coachbuilding company, commences delivery of its first out of five Maserati-powered Mostro Barchettas.
It is a roadster version of the 1950’s race car, which is inspired by the retired Formula One racing driver, Sir Stirling Moss’ Maserati 450S Coupe Zagato.
The Mostro moniker means monster, denoting Moss’ first reaction upon seeing his original Maserati Coupe, who said “Beautiful like a monster”.
Sportily elegant, it has a stance that is low with a slung built front end that features an oval-shaped mesh grille.
Then, the side profile has contours that are very clean from front to back, while stylishly adorning a wraparound windscreen.
As for the back, its body exudes a somewhat bulbous yet refined shape, reminiscent of a classic race car-esque outlook.
Next, it underpins a Maserati-made carbon fiber MonoCell chassis, and furthers the racecar vibe via the frontal block-mounted gearbox and the lack of electronic traction control.
Under the hood, this monster comes with a choice of a 420 HP 4.2-litre Maserati V8 or a 630 HP 3-litre Maserati V6.
A capable car for both racing and cruising, it features a rear-wheel drive, a six-speed sequential gearbox, and a total weight of only 1,200 kg.
That said, it has a highly limited run of only five examples, of which almost all are already assigned to Zagato’s collector clients list.
