Presenting an upgraded version of its electric vehicle (EV) charging solution, EV manufacturer, Lightning eMotors unveils its second-generation Lightning Mobile charger.

First of its kind, this mobile DC fast charger is uniquely designed to accommodate a number of use-cases for commercial and consumer EVs.

Innovatively, it offers rapid deployment of reliable charging capabilities in locations where static charging stations are not possible or only have Level 2 power available.

It does so without the hassle of installation as it can be towed, and each modular unit generates 105-kWh to 420-kWh battery capacity, with up to 5 DC fast-charging outputs.

Other features include active thermal management for optimum battery performance and longevity, and telematics/analytics to optimize fleet operations and vehicle safety.

For comparison, the company’s first generation portable DC charger was designed to be installed in a vehicle or trailer to make it mobile, and only has 192-kWh of battery storage.

According to the company, the second-generation Lightning Mobile was developed over a 12-month period of learnings from operating the first-generation prototype.

Of which, results in a next generation charging capability, proven to be the ideal solution for charging commercial trucks, vans, buses and cars at remote locations, events and depots.

That said, to accommodate both short- and long-term use cases, the system will be available for purchase, or via variable term lease and rental agreements.

Orders are now opened for the new Lightning Mobile chargers, with deliveries commencing in late 2022.
