You'd Be Surprised To Learn What A Tuk-Tuk And An Electric Audi Have In Common!
When you next visit India, keep an eye out for Tuk-Tuks with the Audi logo emblazoned on the front. This is because the Tuk-Tuks were purchased by Nunam, a German-Indian start-up, to assist Audi in discovering a new way to reuse old electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
As previously stated, the main goal of the start-up was to create a method for reusing old EV batteries that were no longer suitable for cars. This will help to extend the battery's service life.
The electric Tuk-Tuks are powered by a repurposed battery module from an Audi e-Tron EV. Although these batteries have outlived their usefulness as EV batteries, they can still be used in lightweight vehicles such as Tuk-Tuks.
Tuk-Tuks are much lighter than cars and do not require as much electricity to power them.
In addition to removing the high-emission engines from the Tuk-Tuks, the company refurbished them to inject some Audi design philosophy into the tricycles, making them look more elegant and futuristic.
These electric Tuk-Tuks are set to hit the streets as part of a pilot programme in early 2023. Nunam hopes that the project will increase job opportunities for women in India by providing women with electric Tuk-Tuks to transport their goods.
Aside from that, the electric Tuk-Tuks will help reduce electronic waste by extending the battery's life and, most importantly, will help reduce emissions in the country.
