- All New 2023 XM, a Performance SUV with PHEV powertrain
After the previous M1 was phased out in 1981, BMW moved in new directions, especially for its performance divisions by introducing the all-new 2023 BMW XM in a PHEV unit that comes in SUV form.
The XM SUV will be available in the U.S. dealerships early next year with a price tag starting from roughly around RM740 K ($159,995) to a higher range which costs more than RM 860 K ($185,000).
As seen on the new model, BMW logos are engraved into each upper corner of the rear window as the wide taillights wrap around the sides.
Moving inside, the XM comes with two-tone blue and brown leather colour seats including the brown "vintage" leather design element. Following next, this two-row model and five seats are covered with a flashy interior that suits the exterior muscular body concept.
Under the hood, the edgy XM SUV consists of a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine paired to an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission, on top of a 25.7-kWh battery pack an estimated electric driving range of 30 miles.
Thanks to the total output of 644 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque plus a more potent Label Red version with a claimed 735 hp and 735 pound-feet arriving soon, the latest XM rides on 23-inch wheels ranked as the automaker’s most powerful SUV in the PHEV range.
The BMW M now has 48-volt active anti-roll bars, though the XM has traditional steel springs rather than air suspension. Adaptive dampers, an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, and a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system will come as standard features.
