Alfa Romeo Monza Circuit Parade

A tribute paid, Alfa Romeo celebrated its 100th anniversary of its indelible moments in the history of motorsports with two iconic parades of its lineage at the Monza Circuit.

The first took place inside the racetrack with 112 collection members of official brand clubs and their cars recounting the 112-year history of the brand.

Whereas outside, the Alfa Romeo Tribe Day parade saw 100 Giulia GTAs, representing the 100 years of the brand’s linkage to the racetrack.

Outstandingly, among the many icons driven in the parades, two Alfas in particular were the main highlight of the show.

These two icons were the leaders of the pack, the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport (1929) and the Alfa Romeo GIULIA Sprint GTA (1965).

For the former, being one of the most important cars of its era, it was the winner of the most famous races both on road and on the circuit.

This example with an aerodynamic bodywork built by Zagato and belonging to Alfa Romeo's official team, has achieved many victories throughout Europe with Goffredo Zehender.

Known as Freddie, the Italian racer was the star of an era in which Alfa Romeo wrote indelible pages of its own myth in motorsport, starting right from the ‘home track’ of Monza.

As for the latter, it served as a representation of the brand’s great motorsport victories of the post-war period, of which is still one of the most iconic models in its history.

Its build was derived from the Giulia Sprint GT that was lightened by 200 KG, and suitably, the ‘A’ in its moniker means lightened.

1965 was its racing debut at the ‘1,000 KM’ of Monza with two cars entered in the prototype category, which were also awaiting homologation in the touring car class.

Be it so, its real debut was at the 1966 ‘4 Ore’ of Monza, with the Giulia Sprint GTA of De Adamich-Zeccoli version dominating the race, followed by six other twins Giulia GTA.

Notably, four consecutive victories were celebrated at the 4 Ore of Monza, and with many more victories thereafter.

Namely, from the Coppa Piemonte to the Inter-Europa and the successes achieved by the Giulia Sprint GTA-SA and GTA 1300 Junior versions.

All in all, the Monza Circuit was where Alfa Romeo made history, as it took home its first Formula One title on 3 September 1950, with the Alfetta 158 raced by Nino Farina.
