- Meet the latest two-door Wuling Mini EV Cabrio!
SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) introduces the Mini EV Cabrio which will be debuted on September 9, 2022. After its preview last year in 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, the model is getting lots of EV enthusiasts as being the first convertible to be released in China.
The all-new Wuling Mini EV Cabrio is conceived as a niche vehicle designed to further bolster the Mini EV's position as China's most popular electric car and monthly production will be limited to 100-200 units per month with room for expansion based on demand.
Under the hood, there is an electric power output of 41 hp (30kW) and 110 Nm that has a top speed of 100km/h. With a battery size of 26.5 kWh, the Mini EV Cabrio could travel up to 280 kilometres per CLTC range that has 20 kilometres less range than Hongguang Mini EV with similar battery size.
The Mini EV Cabrio carries a price tag of roughly around RM 52K (79.800 yuan) which costs RM 6,500 (10.000 yuan) pricier than its four-door hatchback sibling, the Hongguang Mini EV. However, the final price has not yet been confirmed.
Hongguang MINI EV Hatchback
More than that, Hongguang Mini EV has made an appearance in Malaysia and was spotted being tested at Tan Chong Serendah factory.
Announced this year for the Indonesia market, with a tax-free price starting at RM 19,900 (USD4,500 plus after sales and dealership costs), implying that Hongguang Mini EV could be priced as low as RM29,800 in Malaysia.

MINI EV GameBoy Hurricane Phantom edition
Compared to its Hongguang Mini EV GameBoy special edition that was released March 2022, the compact model was introduced in four highly customised, video game-inspired themes namely black matte painted "Hurricane Phantom" with red accents, camo green "Jungle Crossing" inspired by military combat games, ice white "Interstellar Roaming," and brown accented "Party Sweetheart".
Built as a cutting-edge fashion item, Mini EV Cabrio stands out with minimalistic styling touches for a chic look which adopts the new silver global logo as a remark to join the Wuling’s family new transformation.
Onboard, the two-door Cabrio offers red and white interior colours as applied to its seats, doors, dashboard, and centre area. Roll bars are installed behind the seats for added protection and style.
Mini EV Cabrio features two-toned body hues, with Island Blue as the base colour and Pearl White accenting, contrasting with the Sunset Red power-folding soft top. The EV Cabrio is available in only three colour options: sea blue, emerald, and modern black. Wuling claims to add more colours later on.
Recently, Wuling reported that the company’s R&D investment is 191 million yuan and expected to exceed 70,000 units which peaked its profitability in the second half of this year.
As many car brands are promoting EVs in their product lines, Wuling is the first automaker to produce two-door Cabrio which is rather expensive for small EVs.
