Actively under development and close to production reality, Hyundai will soon be unveiling its sub-brand’s new model, the Ioniq 5 N.

A performance iteration of the Ioniq 5, it is likely to have specifications similar to the Kia EV6 GT, of which also underpins the same chassis.

What’s more, it might sport an all-wheel drive system with the ability to accelerate in 3.5 seconds, while producing an output of about 580 HP.

In an interview with Drive Australia, Hyundai’s executive and former head of N high-performance vehicle development, Albert Biermann, had this to say.

“It's a lot faster than the Hyundai i30 N. How can it be slower anyway? Its power reaches almost 600 HP. Though the exact figure has not been decided yet, it might be 580, 600, or 620 HP.”

On top of that, the artificial noise the Ioniq 5 N makes and the importance of it to EV enthusiasts were also mentioned by him.

“Speed is not important. The question is to what extent it gives pleasure to the user? When I joined this company, we talked a lot about the efforts to reduce noise, now we are talking about how to add noise to electric cars to provide comfort and pleasure to the driver."
