No Leniency For Drunk Driving, License Should Be Revoked

CAP Education Officer, NV Subbarow

No longer should it be tolerated. Drunk drivers’ licenses are to be revoked for life, if predicaments involved lead to death.

This is one of the recommendations that was put forward recently by the Penang Consumer Association (CAP).

CAP’s education officer, NV Subbarow, remarked, "Drivers seem to not be afraid of the existing laws and do not care about the lives of others, because they still drive despite being under the influence of alcohol over the prescribed limit.”

According to him, the proposal needs to be considered because the rate of fatal accidents is seen to be increasing in this country.

“For that, we urge the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to impose heavy penalties on drunk drivers who cause death,” he added.

The statement was made after a woman died and another was badly injured in a hit and run by a drunk driver, while crossing the Banting-Kajang road, near the Taman Sri Langat junction.
