SMART Tunnel Closure, 8 AM

Due to the heavy rain since 6 AM this morning, the SMART Tunnel highway had to be completely closed to make way for flood diversion works.

Notably, the water level in Sungai Gombak at Jalan Tun Razak is said to have surpassed the danger limit with a reading of 31 meters around 8 AM this morning.

Meanwhile, the Klang River’s water level at the Tun Perak Bridge has exceeded the warning limit with a reading of 29 meters, as well as the Leboh Pasar’s river at 28 meters.

As such, with the current water level situation, the SMART tunnel had to be completely closed to prepare for the flood operation.

"The underground tunnel now activates Mode 3, where the traffic tunnel is closed and cleared of vehicles, while the flood water is channelled at the bottom of the tunnel," stated Stormwater Management And Road Tunnel (SMART) on Facebook.

That said, the SMART tunnel has four operating modes, and Mode 4 is the highest and will be activated if flood water needs to be diverted to the traffic route.
