SmartLane Activate & Maintenance Orders Halted to give ways for Diwali celebration - PLUS
With Diwali Celebration just around the corner, highway users are advised to ensure their vehicles are in good condition especially for those who travel on a long journey this weekend.
To avoid the heavy traffic, it’s best to leave before 9 a.m. especially if you’re travelling from Klang Valley to Perlis, Kedah, Penang, North Perak, and Johor which now that the government announces school holidays begins today on October 21st until October 26th.
PLUS Chief Operating Officer, Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi has mentioned that around 1.9 million vehicles will be using the highway network on a daily basis during this upcoming holiday period starting from this Friday 21st October as compared to 1.7 million vehicles per day on normal working days.
“Throughout this Deepavali festive period, a total of 512 PLUSRonda personnel, an 8 percent increase from the normal working day, will be on ground to assist highway customers, in case of any eventualities," stressed Datuk Zakaria.
As the road will be flooded with vehicles which led to heavy traffic, PLUS will activate the SmartLane at Bukit Tambun-Juru Toll Plaza and Sungai Petani Selatan-Tikam Batu Lay-by from 3pm to 6pm today to reduce congestion.
To facilitate smoother Southbound traffic movement on October 26th, the SmartLane will be activated between Sungai Petani Selatan towards Tikam Batu Lay-by from 2pm until 6pm.
More than that, the company also issued stop working orders to guarantee that lane capacity will not be compromised during this period along with TTA with support from the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and the Police.
The Deepavali Travel Time Advisory (TTA) focuses on traffic distribution and aims to reduce traffic congestion on the highway, particularly at major stretches, toll plazas, and rest areas during the holiday season.

PLUS will also ensure that no lane closures for highway maintenance or upgrading work take place between the 21st and 25th of October, allowing for smoother traffic flow on the highway.
Lane closures, on the other hand, must be temporarily activated to allow for immediate accident clearance and cleaning, as well as emergencies or critical maintenance for safety reasons.
