The new 2024 Honda Prologue EV SUV unveiled, co-developed with GM

Competition between car manufacturers can be quite tense. But when the stars align, even the fiercest competitors can put aside their differences to collaborate and come up with something special, and at times, revolutionary.

The brainchild of Honda and General Motors (GM) comes in the form of the brand’s first all-electric SUV, dubbed as Honda Prologue. The electric SUV is poised for launch in 2024, exclusively to the North American market.

The Prologue features a modern, fresh styling, with some familiar elements taken from its fellow electrified siblings, the Honda e EV.  The in-house design team based in Los Angeles took the ‘neo-rugged’ direction in designing the Prologue that sets apart from the Japanese marque’s current SUV iterations.

Take a further squint at the Prologue and you can see some obvious design influence from other modern SUVs. For example, the crossover’s rear part resembles the likes of Range Rovers, with the long metal trim engraved with the brand’s name akin to the ones found on the British SUVs.

Unfortunately, no official specifications were disclosed by the brand as for now. The crossover is said to be powered by GM’s proprietary Ultium battery packs, already powering the Chevrolet Blazer EV.  Reports claimed that the Prologue might be sharing similar specs with the Blazer EV, as the battery-sharing fact suggests.

Sitting in the middle of Honda’s light truck pack, the Prologue measures a 3,093 MM wheelbase, some 200 MM longer and 127 MM wider than its lower tier siblings, the infamous CR-V. Modern EV-standard features like full LED lights and panoramic roofs can be found in the Prologue, on top of its 21-inch wheels.

Interior-wise, this EV provides ample passenger and cargo spaces. The fully-digital 11-inch driver metre panel and 11.3-inch infotainment display are set to headline its sleek, tech-laden interior cabin.

Honda is set to launch the Prologue EV into the North American market by 2024, with a timeline for 30 future EV releases being scheduled accordingly by 2030. Said future EVs will be based on both Honda’s own e:Architechture platform, as well as affordable EVs co-developed with GM, all produced in North America.

A joint-venture for lithium-ion EV batteries production in the U.S. was previously signed between Honda and LG Energy Solution to power both Honda and Acura EVs in the North America market, further helping the company to reach its aforementioned targets.

The company is set to meet its 100% zero-emission automobile sales goal in North America by the year 2040, with its global target to achieve carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities set by 2050.
