Toyota Japan To Only Supply One Key FOB Due To Chip Shortage Starting November

The global chip shortage has somewhat brought the automotive industry to a snail's pace with vehicles selling faster than auto makers are able to deliver. Now, if you think things just cannot get any worse, think again.
Toyota Japan has made an announcement recently that a range of vehicles in their lineup would be delivered beginning November with only one (1) key FOB. Yes you heard it right. Now instead of receiving the usual two (2) electronic key FOB, you would only be given one electronic key FOB and an extra mechanical key for emergency usage.

According to Toyota Japan, this move is due to the lack of chip required in the entire manufacturing process hence they are forced to delay the second key FOB delivery to the customer on a later unknown date. They however did mention that efforts are in place to expedite the second key FOB delivery however are unable to tell when.
The vehicles affected by this move are the Toyota Crown, Camry, Prius, bZ4X, RAV4, Harrier, C-HR, Alphard, Vellfire, Noah, Voxy, Land Cruiser, Land Cruiser Prado and Gran Ace. By the look of it it pretty much covers nearly the entire line-up. So to those looking at getting any reconditioned Toyota’s from Japan next year, be sure to check on the availability of the second key FOB, sourcing for one on your own is possible but it is quite expensive.
