- De Tomaso Teases New P900 Hypercar, Debuting in Nov 29

The 2020s has been a decade of throwback, so far. Fuelled by a year-long global pandemic, the media world has been pumping nostalgia via numerous movie remakes and more. Automakers, too, are jumping on this viral bandwagon, with Lamborghini reviving its legendary Countach and Hyundai introducing its N Vision 74 concept, based on its long-forgotten Pony concept back in the 70s.

Said trend also spurred a number of defunct names into making a comeback, such as De Tomaso. The Italian sportscar marque, known for its iconic Pantera models in the 70s, has recently teased its upcoming hypercar, dubbed as the P900.

Prior to the P900, De Tomaso launched the Ford V8-powered P72 supercar, marking a revival for the Italian carmaker. Only 72 units of the P72 will be produced, practically making it a rarity.
De Tomaso posted three teaser images of the P900 on its official Facebook page, denoting the car’s curvy bodywork. Donning a purple-hued carbon weave design, one of the teased images suggested the P900 boasting round-shaped, golden-tinged side mirrors akin to ones found in the 80s sportscars. Sitting below said mirrors are aerodynamic fins, also finished in carbon weave.

The second teaser photo shows the P900’s air intakes, which also comes with numerous fins. Compared to the massive P72’s intake, the P900’s seemed a tad bit smaller. The final teaser image also showcases the P900’s curvy bodywork. At this point, there isn’t much to gauge, but at least it promises a brand-new car coming out.

As for its powertrain, the current P72 boasts Ford’s 5.0-litre supercharged Coyote V8 mill, making about 700 HP. However, De Tomaso’s Facebook teaser post shows the #V8, #V10 and #V12 hashtags, possibly suggesting that the P900 will come with either engine type.
Another intriguing hashtag used in said post is the #Germanengineering, which goes in-line with the posting’s geotag at Nurburgring, Germany. Bought by Hong Kong-based investment fund named Ideal Team Venture, nothing much can be said about Automobili De Tomaso’s ties with any German-based marques. Perhaps, said geotag might suggest the P900’s launching venue next week.
The De Tomaso P900 hypercar is poised for a global debut on Nov 29, 2022, with no specific launching time stated, as for now. More details are expected then.
