The illegal use of strobe or beacon lights is nevertheless prevalent despite prior warnings, according to a recent statement on the Road Transport Department's Facebook page (JPJ). JPJ further emphasised that the unauthorised and illegal usage of strobe or beacon lights can confuse other road users.

According to Rule 94 of the Kaedah-Kaedah Kenderaan Motor, Pembuatan dan Penggunaan, 1959 legislation, those found guilty face an RM2,000 fine or a six-month jail term.

It was also disclosed that from January to October 2022, 1,223 vehicles of various sorts were prosecuted, and 2,319 summonses were issued for the unapproved and illegal usage of beacon or strobe lights.

As stated in the same statement, only vehicles from government departments and agencies as permitted by Act 333 of the Road Transport Act 1987, such as the police, fire department, and ambulance attending to emergency services, are permitted to gain immediate advantage over other road users using sirens and two-tone horns.
