As reported, Lexus announces that its new CT comes with a gas, hybrid, and battery-powered variant. Now, although nothing has been confirmed, a fresh news source has mentioned that the stylish vehicle comes equipped with a 2.0-liter hybrid system, a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, and a battery-powered variant.
More to that, the latest CT model receives visual upgrades but only a single available powertrain which consists of a 1.8-liter four-cylinder mill with 98 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque. This also supported by an electric motor with another 81 hp and 207 Nm along the hybrid system could deliver a peak output of 134 hp.
On a different note, Lexus dropped the CT entry-level model in Japan earlier this year which ended a 10-year production cycle. In the same year, the production of the first-generation CT was also discontinued.
Following next, the car marque plans to turn the CT into a crossover and to place it under the UX company’s global portfolio. The previous CT, specifically the 2011 model costs roughly around RM 137 K ($29,120) which was then revamped to a fresher look for its 2014 model.
However, the EV could not maintain its position as the brand’s entry-level model in the US after several years. The hatchback which was sold in the United States until the 2017 model year was dropped from the line-up after garnering only 4,690 sales in the country.
However, it appears like Lexus is ready to give the CT another opportunity, as a trusted source says that a second-generation vehicle with three distinct powertrain options – gas, hybrid and electric power is now in the works.
