Radar RD6 Launched, Priced From RM116,000 With 632KM Driving Range

Geely Group's Radar RD6 electric pickup truck has finally been released in China. It is based on the SEA platform and has a range of 632KM with a power output of up to 272HP. The announced starting price of 178,800 RMB (RM116,000).

Radar is a brand under Geely much like smart and Proton which is aimed at buyers living in big cities. This small pickup truck concept has caught on well in the Asian market with hugh sales even in Malaysia prompting to some key brands just focusing on the genre of vehicle.  Radar will be introduced to the Chinese market in four new vehicles in the near future, which includes an SUV, a small pickup truck, a large SUV, and an ATV. The RD6 would be their first offering.

The RD6 was designed by Geely Group's British modelling centre, according to Radar, however Carnewschina reported its strikingly similar to that of the Geely Haoyue. Even the shape of its headlights resembles that of the Geely SUV. With the exception of an intriguing tail light unit, the RD6's exterior is quite simplistic. The dimensions of the Radar RD6 are 5260/1900/1830 mm, with a wheelbase of 3120 mm very similar in size to the Toyota Hilux.

The interior of the Radar RD6 is pretty much a carbon copy of the Geely Haoyue which seems to be the donor vehicle for this project. The infotainment displays, centre compartments, aircond vents, seats, and even steering wheels are all the same to the Geely Haoyue. The RD6 has 72-colour ambient lighting, a HUD, and two 12.3-inch screens with voice interaction capability.

Radar claims that the RD6’s trunk has six different electrical power ports capable to deliver up to 2000W. It goes on to add that this is sufficient to handle five household air-cond units hence making it perfect for young urban adventure seekers.

The RD6's is only offered in rear wheel drive configuration which pretty much says that it was not meant for off-road usage. All 272 Hp is directed to the rear wheels giving it a rapid 6-seconds 1-100kmh acceleration time.

As for the battery options available, the RD6 would be offered in 3 configurations. The base model would receive an LFP battery with a capacity of 63 kWh and a range of 400KM. The mid tier model would get a larger NMC battery with a capacity of 86 kWh and a range of 550KM and the range topper would receive the NMC battery with a capacity of 100 kWh and a range of 632KM.

Now, we do hope that the Radar RD6 would be made available in Malaysia one day as this segment of small-trucks are doing exceptionally well here. With Proton being the subsidiary of Geely similar to Radar and the setting up of the Pro-Net by Proton to handle EV vehicle sales of other brands under Geely such as the smart, the RD6 will fit perfectly under Pro-Net’s portfolio.
