- The Scalar SCR1, A 328 Hp Capable Electric Vehicle Racer
An electric vehicle racer unveiled by Scalar Performance, the SCR1, the first car approved by the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) for use in its Super Touring Series.
The Canadian-based company’s new EV racer is based on the Toyota GR86, but with the 2.4-liter FA24D H4 engine swapped out for a Hypercraft Stealth EV motor instead.
Harbouring a single electric motor, it has 328 Hp and 468 Nm of torque coursing to the rear wheels via a Torsen limited-slip differential and racing-style straight-cut gears.
Then, a 65-kWh Hypercraft battery pack provides it an estimated 45 minutes of track time, and DC fast charged at 150-kW is said to take less than 20 minutes.
Weighing in at 1,379 Kg, it surges from zero to 97 Km/h in 3.9 seconds, and has a 267 Km/h top speed. A lot faster than the 6.1 seconds and 265 Km/h top speed manual-transmission GR86.
Of course, with speed comes stopping power, which is provided by 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brake callipers.
Plus, a Scalar suspension system with Ohlins dampers is also installed, and according to the company weight distribution is similar to a mid-engine car.
Safety features include a fire-suppression system integrated with the battery pack, roll cage, and 6-point harnesses.
That said, Scalar Performance plans to begin deliveries of the SCR1 EV racer in 2023, starting with 10 Founder Limited Edition cars.
Applications for these build slots are ongoing through 31 December, and it requires a USD 5,000 (MYR 23,698) deposit on a USD 210,000 (MYR 995,295) purchase price.
