Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) announced yesterday that The Civil Defence Force (APM) is in needs at least 30 units of four-wheel drive (4WD) ambulances to serve the rural areas of Sarawak as reported by BERNAMA.

He went on to add that his side had instructed the Sarawak APM director, Abdul Wahab Rahim to prepare and hand in the necessary application for the required 4WD ambulances so that it can be submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for approval.

Wilson further said that, "These 4WD ambulances are needed because we will expand our (APM) teams in Belaga, Song (in Kapit of central Sarawak) and Limbang (north of Sarawak)".

He also stressed that these 4WD ambulances are extremely important due to the natural condition of the terrains in the state rural areas posing a challenge to be served by regular ambulances.

This proposal would join in with the existing proposal for the setting-up of a Sarawak APM training hall which will serve as a base to strengthen the members skills.
