The Chery brand was recently previewed to the Malaysian public as it teased its reintroduction into the Malaysian market with a slew of offerings namely the Tiggo Pro, Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8, Tiggo 4 and the headliner, OMODA 5. The OMODA 5, being Chery’s pride and joy, would be its very first offering to be awarded the five-star safety rating by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP).

The OMODA 5, obtained the five-star rating by scoring highly in the four crucial areas of the test. It managed to score 87% in the Adult Occupant protection, 87% in the Child Occupant protection, 68% in the Vulnerable Road Users test and an impressive 88% in the Safety Assist categories.

According to Chery, “the OMODA 5’s success in this test is rooted in its user-centric focus and relentless pursuit of quality, having taken into account the key demands of global consumers from the R&D and design stages”.

Furthermore, the OMODA 5 has not only made significant advances in body structure, safety configuration, and other aspects, but has also completed adaptive development verification in various environments and road conditions around the world, including acing the Tri-Extreme Tests, which are conducted in extreme environments of low temperatures (-40°C), high temperatures (nearly 50°C), and high altitudes (5,200 metres).

The body of the OMODA 5 is made up of 78% high-strength steel, which can withstand pressures of up to 1,800 MPa, and it has been meticulously designed and manufactured to maintain its overall structure without deforming in the event of a collision. Furthermore, its Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) includes 16 functions, including adaptive cruise control, to improve occupant safety and comfort.

The OMODA 5 enters the international stage with a new attitude, buoyed by this recognition of its global-standard safety and quality. The SUV has already been introduced in China, Kuwait, Israel, and several other markets, and it will be available in many more countries and regions including Malaysia in the coming year.
