- First Look: Ford Mustang Mach-E in Malaysia By G-Mart Group - RM450,000 nett
Heads up EV fans, specialist importers G-Mart Group has expanded its inventory after adding several units of the Ford Mustang Mach-E crossover SUV, thus making them the first in Malaysia to offer this EV crossover SUV model.
We decided to take a closer look at all three units, which were dressed in Red, Grey and Blue, over at the firm’s Kampung Melayu Subang outlet earlier today.
Having spent several hours checking them inside and out, it’s safe to say that EV fans with the means seeking something a little different from the usual European offerings have much to look forward to indeed.
For starters, all three units G-Mart Group have imported are the UK-spec Extended Range variant of the Mustang Mach-E in Premium AWD trimline. This version is brimmed with a larger 88 kWh lithium ion battery pack instead of the Standard Range variant’s 68 kWh unit.
It also boasts a dual-motor setup, which in turn sees it adopt an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system as well. The former boasts 346 HP (or 258 KW) and a meaty 580 NM to drive all four wheels via the latter.
The result sees this electrified crossover SUV cousin of the Blue Oval’s iconic ‘Pony Car’ despatch the 0-60 MPH sprint in just 4.8 seconds (0-100 KM/H in 5.1 secs) whilst enroute towards an electronically governed top speed of 180 KM/H – this limited V-Max exists as a means to preserve the batteries.
Crucially, the EV powertrain accepts both regular AC and rapid DC charging inputs, with the latter up to 150 KW as well. As for range, a full charge offers between 435 KM (EPA rating) and 540 KM (WLTP rating) of travel, depending on how you drive.
In terms of size, the Mustang Mach-E is in the same league as things like the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and BMW X4. In contrast to both ICE-powered Germans though, the Mustang Mach-E clearly sits much lower, and it arguably has a sportier stance over said crossover coupe SUVs too.
This sporty looks stems from bits like the sporty fastback design that features a swooping roofline, snazzy two-tone 19-inch alloy wheels, red-painted brake calipers, contrasting black exterior accents and roof, not forgetting bits derived from the Mustang sports coupe like the headlights, taillights and rear tailgate.
Whilst on the exterior still, it’s worth noting several novel bits like the absence of physical door handles. Instead, all four doors open electronically via buttons cleverly integrated in the door pillars. On top of that, the driver’s door pillar also has an integrated touch keypad for owners to key in their unique security code and unlock the doors too.
Inside, the Mustang Mach-E’s cabin is surprisingly roomy and plush, on top of being both sporty and high tech. Premium amenities present include keyless entry and ignition, a panoramic glass roof, plush leather-upholstered seats and cabin trims with sporty red pipe-stitching, as well electric-powered front seat adjustments.
Key tech present include a 10.2-inch digital instrument display panel for drivers, as well as a massive 15.5-inch central and portrait-oriented touchscreen. The latter, which features a novel analogue volume control dial, grants access to the air conditioning and infotainment controls, both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as toggling between the three drive modes present – Whisper, Active, and Untamed.
Beyond that, the massive touchscreen doubles up as the display for the 360-degree parking camera system primed on board, and it’s paired with a Bang & Olufsen premium hi-fi audio system. Other key bits present on board include a wireless smartphone charging pad up front, USB-A and USB-C charge ports for front and rear passengers, as well as rear seat air conditioning vents.
In terms of practicality, the Mustang Mach-E’s family-friendly credentials is bolstered by the presence of both a traditional rear boot and a ‘frunk’. The boot offers up to 402 litres of storage with the rear seats up, or 1,420 litres with the rear seats folded. Access here is made easier thanks to the presence of a powered tailgate function with both keyfob button and foot-sensor activation.
By the way, said boot is further complemented by the ‘frunk’ mentioned earlier, which offers an additional 81 litres of cargo space up front under the hood, and it even comes with a nifty cargo partition plus a drain plug – the latter means you can hose this space out easily too. If anything, this should serve as a nifty storage compartment to stow things like your charging cable.
Like what you see in this electrified redux of the Blue Oval marque’s iconic ‘Pony Car’? Then you’d best ready your cheque books and head on over to the G-Mart Group outlet in Kampung Melayu Subang to place your bookings, or perhaps view it yourself in the flesh.
As for price, G-Mart Group has tagged each of these initial units of the Ford Mustang Mach-E it has in inventory at RM450,000 nett. Said figure includes an APEG Warranty package that lasts for five years and covers the ECU, powertrain, and the high-voltage battery.
