New Ford Latitude AI Division Introduced, Will Develop Advanced Driver Assist Tech
Ford has announced the creation of a new tech subsidiary called Latitude AI. Through this division, its primary tasks lay in the development and building of Ford’s latest hands-free, eyes-off-the-road driver assist technologies.
According to Ford, the new subsidiary features a global team of approximately 550 former Argo AI employees with skills in machine learning, robotics, software, sensors, system engineering, and operations professionals.
Ford revealed back in 2022 that it would shift its focus from Level 4 to Level 2-3 autonomy instead. The latter is poised for implementation by the carmaker to allow its car to be in charge of its operational duties while the driver is present.

In the same year, Ford added hands-free lane changes to the system's capabilities, and the pairing works well with the upgraded version 1.2 of its BlueCruise automated driving system designed to assist drivers during high-stress moments on the road.

Head of Ford’s Advanced Product Development and Technology, Doug Field, highlighted “We see automated driving technology as an opportunity to redefine the relationship between people and their vehicles’’.
“The deep experience and talent in our Latitude team will help us accelerate the development of all-new automated driving technology - with the goal of not only making travel safer, less stressful and more enjoyable, but ultimately over time giving our customers some of their day back” he added.
