Hyundai Malaysia Teases the Ioniq 6 EV – Launching Soon?

Hyundai’s global line-up transition from exclusively ICE cars to a mix of hybrids and full EVs has garnered numerous semi or fully-electrified Hyundai models into our local market. From the Kona Electric to the flagship Ioniq 5 EV SUV, Hyundai Malaysia’s electrified fleet is due for an expansion in the upcoming months.

Teased together with an SUV trio in a video teaser posted by Hyundai Malaysia is the all-new Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV. This streamliner-styled EV saloon is poised to debut alongside three Hyundai SUVs, namely the Creta, Santa Fe and Palisade.

The one-minute video teaser posted via Hyundai Malaysia’s Facebook page showcases a slew of Hyundai heritage models, from its first production model, the Pony, to the marque’s first-ever all-electric car, the Ioniq 5 SUV. Said video then showcased the teaser for said four models draped in the shadow, together with a caption that reads “Coming soon.”

Sitting far left amongst the four models is the aforementioned Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV. Debuted back in June this year, the Ioniq 6 boasts streamliner aesthetics in the form of its single-curved aerodynamic profile that produces only 0.21 of drag coefficient – the lowest amongst other Hyundai models.

In terms of dimension, the Ioniq 6 measures 4,855 MM long and 1,880 MM wide, while its wheelbase measures at 2,950 MM - 50 MM shy of the Ioniq 5’s 3,000 MM wheelbase length.

Underpinning the same E-GMP EV platform as the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 features an 800 V architecture that can also support 400 V charging. This dedicated EV platform enables Hyundai to fit the Ioniq 6 with a 77.4-kWh battery pack that supplies enough juice for a travel range of up to 614 KM (WLTP).

Pairing up with this battery pack is either a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) powertrain or the more powerful dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup. The RWD setup delivers up to 225 HP and 350 NM, while the top-spec AWD setup grants the Ioniq 6 a 321 HP and 605 NM.

As of writing, Hyundai Malaysia’s EV line-up consists of the Kona Electric and the Ioniq 5 SUV. The Kona Electric comes in three variants, where the range-topper Kona e-Max boasts a claimed maximum travel range of 484 KM (WLTP), and priced at RM208,348.

Also coming in three trim levels, the Ioniq 5’s top-spec, known as the Ioniq 5 Max, harnesses a 72.6-kWh battery pack that gives it a maximum travel range of 430 KM (WLTP). Price for the Ioniq 5 starts at RM207,808 for the Lite variant, while the range-topper Ioniq 5 Max commands a hefty RM270,408 price tag.

With both the Kona Electric and Ioniq 5 being SUV crossovers, the upcoming Ioniq 6 will be Hyundai Malaysia’s first-ever EV saloon that is poised to go against the likes of the recently-launched Mercedes-Benz EQE saloon, as well as the BMW i4.

Excited to see the Ioniq 6 rolling down our streets soon? How much should Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) charge for this sleek EV saloon? For latest updates on the Ioniq 6 EV and other auto-related news, stay tuned at Caricarz.com
