The all-new 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric has launched in Indonesia at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024. This successor to the previous Kona aims to capture the Indonesian market with its advanced features and impressive specifications.

One of the standout features of the new Kona Electric is its locally produced battery from PT HLI Green Power, showcasing Hyundai's commitment to local production and sustainability in Indonesia. The new Kona Electric also boasts an impressive range of up to 600 KM (Long Range variant).

The Kona Electric features modern design cues, including the iconic Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp and twin headlamps with Full LED projector lights. These elements, combined with body-coloured wheel arches and sharply defined surfaces, give the Kona Electric a robust yet sophisticated appearance.

Inside, the Kona Electric is a testament to Hyundai's dedication to comfort and functionality. Sitting 4,355 MM in long with a 2,660 MM wheelbase, 1,825 MM wide, and 1,580 MM tall, the Kona Electric offers ample space for passengers and cargo alike.

The flat floor design in the second row and best-in-class cargo space of 466 litres (up to 1,300 litres with the rear seats folded) make it ideal for both everyday commutes and long journeys.

The Kona Electric also features an electric sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and an advanced Panoramic Display that integrates dual 12.3-inch LCD displays. The inclusion of premium Bose eight-speaker audio ensures an immersive audio experience, while wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay enhances convenience.

Hyundai has also brimmed the Kona Electric with a suite of advanced technologies to enhance the driving experience. The Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature allows the car to function as an electric charger, perfect for outdoor adventures. Additionally, the Utility Mode enables the use of electronic devices powered from the drive battery instead of draining power from the 12V battery.

Safety is paramount in the Kona Electric, which includes Hyundai SmartSense's advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) with features like Forward Collision Avoidance, Driver Attention Warning, and Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist. These features ensure a safer and more comfortable driving experience.

The all-new Kona Electric is available across several variants - Signature Long Range, Signature Standard Range, Prime Long Range, Prime Standard Range, and Style. Each offers a unique blend of features, with battery capacities ranging from 48.9 kWh to 66 kWh and motor outputs from 154 HP to 214 HP, plus shared 255 NM torque output.

Hyundai has priced the Kona Electric competitively, with the Signature Long Range variant available at IDR590,000,000 (RM171,000), Signature Standard Range at IDR575,000,000 (RM167,000), Prime Long Range at IDR560,000,000 (RM162,000), Prime Standard Range at IDR515,000,000 (RM149,000) and the Style variant at IDR499,000,000 (RM144,000).

All Kona Electric models come with free maintenance and spare parts for five years or 75,000 KM, a basic warranty for four years or 100,000 KM, and a battery warranty for eight years or 160,000 KM.

In Malaysia, Hyundai Sime Darby has not announced any new model introductions for this year, including the long awaited Kona Electric. This further raises the questions on a potential restructuring rumoured within Hyundai Malaysia for it to remain competitive with the growing number of offerings especially in the EV space from other makes.
