Tesla has signed an application pointing to the establishment of a new battery cell development lab near the Fremont factory.
On a small pilot line on Kato Road, not far from the main car factory, the business has begun producing its own 4680 battery cells.
The renowned car brand has also been making batteries alongside one of its partners, Panasonic, at its initial Gigafactory in Sparks, Nevada, near Reno, for many years.
Aside from that, Teslarati points out that similar to the Kato Road complex, the company has other neighbouring facilities that are part of the Fremont production operations, though they are not physically connected.
It's worth noting that the US electric vehicle manufacturer is also looking to fill more positions in Fremont, most likely tied to the battery development expansion.
According to Teslarati, engineering opportunities for powder processing and wet chemistry processing are available.
This comprises not only batteries for its electric vehicles, but also household and business storage batteries. Tesla, on the other hand, is still working to improve and scale up manufacturing procedures for its new 4680 cells.
