- FREE Bus Service From Bukit Mertajam to Penang Island
Penang state government together with Rapid Penang is further optimizing the public transport system in the island state particularly the connectivity between the island and mainland with the introduction of one new Cat Bridge Free Bus Service that will connect Bukit Mertajam and KOMTAR.
The Bukit Mertajam Cat Bridge Service (CAT14) covers a 26KM route from the Bukit Mertajam Summit, passes through Bandar Perda and Penang Bridge and heads towards the KOMTAR Bus Terminal.
This service has been operational since the beginning of this year and is undergoing a six month trial in terms of the route covered. There are in total five buses being deployed on this CAT14 route with the average travel time of between 60 to 85 minutes each trip.
The service would begin at 6am and end at 7pm for Bukit Mertajam Summit to Komtar route while for Komtar to Bukit Mertajam Summit it starts at 6am and ends at 7.25pm. The frequency of these buses are 30-45 minutes from Monday to Friday and 30 to 60 minutes during weekends and public holidays.
The CAT14 buses are easily identifiable by its striking red decal wrap.
