UMW Toyota Hands Five Toyota Mirai To Sarawak SEDC Energy & Premier Abang
UMW Toyota Motor, handed four units of Toyota Mirai to SEDC Energy and one unit to the Premier of Sarawak, Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg. This according to Toyota Malaysia is a step towards delivering 'Mobility for All' and producing ‘Happiness for All’. This is in line with its commitment towards carbon neutrality by 2050 and Sarawak’s Green Mobility and Green Energy Initiatives.
Based on the wheels, from the picture shared by Toyota, the Mirai handed over was the base XLE variant which has a claimed range of 647 km. Being a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the Mirai can be refuelled in a short five minutes and has zero emission with just water being its by-product.
Toyota globally, although still in its vehicle electrification infancy, is committed towards global carbon neutrality by 2050, hence in Malaysia through its collaboration with SEDC Energy's strategy plus its planning in Sarawak's Hydrogen Economy and Electric Mobility, is paving a pathway towards this zero-emissions future.
With its principle of “Mobility for All” and the goal of "Leave No One Behind", Toyota plans to provide its customers more choices with readily accessible electrification at scale and speed. This hence places Toyota among the most versatile global auto manufacturers being able to pivot its vehicle development towards more sustainable solutions for society and the world.
According to Ravindran K, President of UMW Toyota Motor, “The immediate way forward to address CO2 emissions is via Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) like the Corolla Cross HEV which is at its most advanced technologically and economical, making it accessible to the masses. Meanwhile, a full line-up of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) is underway globally and we are exploring the possibility of the introduction of a Toyota beyond Zero (bZ) model for the Malaysian market.”
Toyota, being one of the premier manufacturers that is pushing the envelope in terms of efficient alternatives vehicles for climate conscious customers with offerings ranging from HEVs, hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEV) and BEVs. Till now Toyota has sold 20 million electrified vehicles globally reducing CO2 emission by 160 million metric tonnes.
On the local front, UMW Toyota Motor expresses its appreciation to SEDC Energy which undertook the Sarawak Government environmental effort in achieving green mobility, along with its efforts to develop multi-fuel stations and other hydrogen projects.
