Volvo Car Malaysia Charts 3,194 Units Delivered in 2022

Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) continues to record an impressive sales performance by closing 2022 on a high. The firm delivered a record sales figure of 3,194 units for said year, marking its seventh consecutive year of growth plus a 43% increase over the previous year’s figure. The introduction of both the all-electric XC40 Recharge and its C40 Recharge coupe-bodied twin contributed to Volvo's total sales, according to its managing director Charles Frump. “With an increased market share of our fully electric vehicles globally, we are optimistic the same will apply in Malaysia,” Frump adds.
For the record, both models are assembled in Shah Alam, thus strengthening VCM's position as the market leader in Malaysia for CKD EVs. Based on the 2022 sales figures released, VCM is poised towards meeting its goal at becoming Malaysia’s leading e-luxury automotive brand as pledged by Frump during the C40 Recharge’s launch last month. On that note, said mission will likely be bolstered with the impending introduction of the new Volvo EX90 EV SUV model. Said flagship offering, introduced late last year, was teased by VCM as well during the C40’s launch, signifying a possible launch in Malaysia later this year.

Volvo Cars' total global sales of 615,121 cars for 2022 were unavoidably impacted by supply chain challenges and production restraints borne out of component shortages and Covid-related lockdowns. Despite this, demand for Volvo vehicles remained strong, with global sales of the overall Recharge lineup with Pure Electric and Plug-in Hybrid powertrains reaching 43.8% in December 2022. Fully-electrified cars, on the other hand, accounted for 20.1% of Volvo’s global sales in the same month.
