CKD Volvo C40 Recharge Renamed As EC40 In Malaysia – RM288,888, 554 KM Range
Previously known as the Volvo C40 Recharge, the model was renamed globally last year as the EC40.
About this time last year, Swedish automaker Volvo announced the global renaming for both the all-electric XC40 Recharge variant and C40 Recharge models. Both had dropped their ‘Recharge’ designation in favour of simpler new ‘EX40’ and ‘EC40’ monikers respectively.
Now, Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has started to apply this change with the locally assembled (CKD) C40 Recharge model. Starting from its latest 2025 model year (2025MY) guise, the compact luxury EV coupe crossover is now known as the EC40 instead.
Now, the name change applies to the locally assembled (CKD) C40 Recharge starting from its latest 2025MY guise. The Shah Alam-built EX30 also gains a new Cloud Blue exterior paint option pictured.
However, the change to ‘EX40’ for its standard-bodied twin hasn’t been applied yet – it continues to be called the XC40 Recharge locally. Expect this model, which also rolls off the line from VCM’s Shah Alam assembly line alongside the newly renamed EC40, to be locally redesignated soon enough.
As a refresher, VCM updated EC40 model around the same time last year with upgraded e-motors, slightly larger battery, and increased DC charging speed. For its latest 2025MY guise, there is one minor change to note – the new Cloud Blue paint replacing the Vapour Grey hue offered prior.

To recap, the EC40 packs a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup that was upgraded and optimised last year with more rear-drive bias. Altogether, the setup outputs a combined 402 HP and 670 NM to enable 0-100 KM/H sprints in just 4.7 secs.
Juicing said e-motors a slightly enlarged 82 KWh battery pack that was also upgraded last year with 200 kW DC charging input capabilities, the latter enabling 10-80% re-charge in just 28 minutes. The beefed up battery and e-motor combination also yielded an increased WLTP range of 554 KM.
The new Cloud Blue hue mentioned replaces the Vapour Grey option offered prior. Retained are the (clockwise) Crystal White, Onyx Black, Silver Dawn, and Sage Green choices pictured.
VCM adds that this renamed model is now opened for bookings, and its price remain unchanged at RM288,888. Additionally, bookings placed between now until March 31 benefit with a complimentary wall box voucher worth RM5,000.
Included in said price isa five-year complementary Volvo Service Plan (VSP) covering comprehensive, scheduled servicing, as well as five years of complimentary Digital Services offering seamless access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play Store, and remote functions via the Volvo Cars App.
