PDRM and MBSA Warns Against Obstruction Of Public Roads And Parking Spaces

The issue of improper parking and claiming a public parking spot as your own private spot must be quite a hot topic now as both Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and the Royal Malaysian Police’s (PDRM) Enforcement and Investigation division posted a near similar post to warn Malaysians against this act.

Now according to PDRM, all vehicle users must make it a habit to park their vehicles properly in the parking lot provided. This is in order to avoid unnecessary congestion leading to inconvenience to other road users.

Furthermore, items such as umbrellas, makeshift stalls (burger stalls), pre-booking parking spaces 'COP' and any other obstructions must not be placed in the parking lot. PDRM is calling for the public to be more considerate and attentive instead of being irresponsible when it comes to parking space rules.

Those who fail to comply with these parking rules can be prosecuted under the Road Traffic Act 1959 or under the Road Transport (Allocation of Parking) Order governed by the relevant Local Authority.

Meanwhile, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), tweeted that the act of pre-booking parking spaces 'COP' for personal use by placing obstructions such as buckets, chairs, cones and flower pots be it on the road, roadside or council parking spaces is an offence.

This is because it creates an obstacle for other road users or residents going about their daily life. Those who are found guilty performing such offences can be fined RM500 for it under Section 46 of the Roads, Drains and Buildings Act 1974. We do also hope all the local councils would relook into the parking lots at their areas to ensure proper size standards are met.
