- EKVE 91% Completed, To Be Opened In Stages In 2024 - Works Ministry
The East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) is 91% complete, according to the Works Ministry, after being temporarily halted due to rising construction costs.
According to the ministry's written parliamentary response on Monday, the concession company had to obtain additional funds to cover the increased costs (March 6).
It stated that the funding issue had been resolved and that construction work would resume in mid-February.
The highway is expected to open in stages beginning in 2024, according to the ministry's response to Syahredzan Johan [DAP-Bangi], who had asked the government to reveal the EKVE's construction progress and completion date.
Syahredzan also requested that the government provide a list of incidents of flash floods, mud floods, soil erosion, pollution, and other issues that have been identified as a result of the EKVE construction works, as well as the actions taken. According to the ministry, three water overflow events occurred in 2022, affecting the project's localised area in Sierra Ukay, but the frequency of such unexpected events was decreasing.
"Regular monitoring will also be conducted continuously along the EKVE range, particularly in the identified hotspot areas, to ensure safety and mitigation plans can be implemented immediately in the event of any emergency," the ministry said.
