Launched: Mazda CX-30 CKD – 4 Variants, No More Diesel Or AWD, From RM128K

Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd sees its Mazda brand line up revised today as it introduced the locally assembled (CKD) Mazda CX-30 crossover SUV offering. It joins the same local production line at the Inokom Assembly Plant in Kulim, Kedah, as its larger CX-5 and CX-8 siblings.

With the switch to CKD, the CX-30’s range has been streamlined to just 4 variants in total, all of which primed exclusively with a new 2.0-litre 4-cyl petrol powertrain and front-wheel-drive (FWD) setups. Variants featuring either the 1.8-litre diesel 4-cyl options, as well as all-wheel-drive (AWD), have all been dropped in the CKD version.

Powering all variants now is a revised iteration of Mazda’s signature 2.0-litre Skyactiv 4-cyl direct-injected petrol mill that develops 162 HP and 213 NM. Said outputs drive the front wheels via a 6-speed Skyactiv Drive automatic box. According to Bermaz, this setup promises high efficiency thanks to its claimed 6.4 litres/100 KM combined consumption rate.

New to the range is a new CX-30 2.0 Standard base variant that’s easily distinguished by its adoption of halogen DRLs, regular LED taillight illumination, regular front grille design, as well as modest 16-inch alloy wheels. This variant also gets a manual tailgate, manual air-cond sans rear vents, fabric seats, and none of the advanced driver assistance (ADAS) features seen in the two higher trimlines.

Above that comes the CX-30 2.0 High variant that adds full-LED headlights and DRLs plus taillights combo with Mazda signature illumination graphics, black-finished front grille, an added rear spoiler, as well as 18-inch wheels. Other key additions include leather seats with 10-way power adjustable driver seat, auto-dimming rear view mirror, paddle-shifters, automatic dual-zone air-conditioning with rear vents, powered tailgate, as well as front and rear parking sensors.

Opt for the CX-30 2.0 High+ and the kit list is with a host of ADAS features such as Radar Cruise Control with Stop-Go function, Mazda’s Smart brake Support (front and rear), rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA), blind-spot monitor (BSM), driver attention alert (DAA), as well as both lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist (LKAS).

As for the range-topping CX-30 2.0 High+ Premium, its kit list gets beefed up with the addition of key luxuries such as a sunroof, as well as a 360-degree parking monitor. This flagship also gets a beefed up ADAS suite that includes added Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS) for its Radar Cruise Control, added Driver Monitoring ability for its DAA, front cross-traffic alert (FCTA), as well as adaptive LED headlamps.

These differences aside, all variants of the CX-30 CKD share plenty of common premium amenities on board. Highlights include a novel colour head-up display (HUD), 7-inch TFT digital gauge cluster display, 8.8-inch infotainment display offering both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity plus an 8-speaker audio system, as well as keyless entry and ignition.

Of course, the swicth to CKD also entails a reduction in price. On-the-road sans insurance, figures now read at RM128,109 for the new base CX-30 2.0 Standard, RM136,109 for the CX-30 2.0 High, RM146,109 for the CX-30 High+, and RM156,109 for the range-topping CX-30 High+ Premium.

For reference, the previous fully imported (CBU) CX-30 range was priced between RM145,759 and RM180,689.

Like before, all prices for the new CKD version includes Bermaz’s offer of a 5-year or 100,000 KM warranty coverage plus a 5-year or 100,00 KM free scheduled maintenance plan. Orders can now be placed through authorised dealers with first deliveries set to commence at the end of this month.

UPDATE - 9 March, 12PM

Over 1,000 bookings have been placed for the new Mazda CX-30 CKD in less than a month, according to Bermaz. The firm also shed light on its current backlog for other models, which we’ve detailed in our latest report that includes even more photos of the new CX-30 CKD model as well.
