Test Run On New Toll Payment System For Penang Bridge, BKE - PLUS
PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) and Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) agreed to work on the new toll payment system. Through this cooperation, it demonstrated support for the government’s initiative to provide highway users with further options to pay toll charges.
Following that, the firm plans to demonstrate a trial run to implement an open toll payment system at the infamous Penang Bridge and Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) in September.
‘’We are currently preparing to have a trial run of the system where highway users get to use the debit and credit cards at the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) lanes, as well as e-wallet TNG at the Penang Bridge,’’,” according to PLUS Chief Operating Officer Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi.
He went on to say a similar trial run will be carried out to test the system at the BKE toll plaza in Kubang Semang as PLUS will always offer more alternatives to provide a conducive toll payment system, especially for highway users.
This aligns with works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi's announcement regarding several highways to operate on the said payment system for toll collection.
For instance, it includes the Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya) and the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), both of which are operated by the IJM Toll Division aside from Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) and Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE) as well as Penang Bridge.
