2 Million Vehicles Expected On PLUS Highway Per Day During Aidilfitri Holiday Period
PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) anticipates 2 million vehicles to travel on the PLUS highway on peak days during the Aidilfitri holiday period.
Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi, chief operating officer of PLUS Malaysia Berhad, stated that the peak days would be April 20 to 21, April 24 to 25, April 29 to May 1, and May 4 to 7, with a 20% increase in traffic compared to normal days.
"We advise highway users to travel earlier to avoid being stuck in traffic surges during peak days," he said today in a statement.
PLUS is also taking steps to make travel safer and more convenient for those returning to their hometowns for the celebration.
He stated that PLUS would work with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Road Transport Department (RTD) to improve safety and provide an Emergency Response Team (ERT) with over 500 personnel at 11 strategic locations along the highway.
"PLUS will as well provide over 6,000 personnel from the highway ecosystem to assist highway users at toll plazas, lay-bys, lay-bys and highway mainline," he added.
Travel Time Advisory (TTA) will also be issued by PLUS to assist travellers in planning their trips during the Aidilfitri holiday.
Furthermore, PLUS will temporarily halt highway upgrading and maintenance work from April 19 to May 1 to ensure a smoother and more comfortable journey. "In the event of an emergency or critical repair work," he added, "lane closures will be implemented to ensure the safety of highway users." Highway users can get the most recent traffic updates by following PLUS on Twitter @PLUStrafik or @LPT2trafik, using the PLUS app, PUTRI Chatbot, radio stations, and Variable Message Signs (VMS).
