For Malaysians returning to their hometown to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year, the government announced free toll rates across 33 highway concessionaires today. Highway users will be able to ride for free on April 19 through April 21, as well as April 24.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the good news during a press conference at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebrations. According to him, this will cover 33 highways and all vehicle classes. Aidilfitri public holidays are tentatively scheduled for April 22 and 23.

Anwar also announced that, beginning on April 21, the police will offer a special discount on all traffic summonses for a month. "These summonses may be for offences committed in 2022 or earlier." Each summons can be settled for RM50. This special rate, however, does not apply to traffic summonses issued in 2023," he explained.

He also stated that the police will conduct Operation Lancar on April 18 and 19, focusing on routes that are expected to be congested, in order to help ensure smoother travel for road users during the holiday season. “Meanwhile, Ops Selamat 20 will be carried out from April 20 for seven days to ensure the safety of road users returning (from their hometowns),” he added.
