Congestion at Johor's land crossings with Singapore
During the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, traffic on the Causeway is expected to increase by 20% to 30%. According to Johor state exco member Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, visitors will include both Singaporeans and Malaysians working and living in the island republic. "To accommodate the high traffic volume, the Causeway will have 27 car lanes open for immigration clearance for vehicles entering Malaysia and another 29 lanes open for vehicle exits." During the holiday season, 50 motorcycle lanes will be open on both sides. "For pedestrians and bus passengers, 32 manual and automatic gate counters will be operational as well," he told reporters yesterday at Infra Desa (Johor) in Southkey. Every day, 300,000 people cross the Causeway.

Mohamad Fazli, who is in charge of works, transportation, and infrastructure, said relevant agencies such as the Immigration and Customs departments had also been reminded to place their employees appropriately. To address the festive traffic situation, he said a multi-agency task force coordinating meeting involving the police, Immigration, Customs, Road Transport Department (RTD), and Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) was held on April 13. Road users will also be permitted to use an 8-kilometer stretch of the North-South Motorway between Senai and Kulai on April 20, 21, 27, and 28. He stated that the motorway stretch from KM19 to KM27 is a traffic congestion hotspot due to its slope. "The emergency lane is opened on these specific days to relieve balik kampung traffic." It is open for business in accordance with standard operating procedures and safety precautions. "The relevant authorities, such as the police, RTD, and Apad, have been informed," he added.

He also advised motorists to plan their trips in accordance with PLUS Malaysia Bhd's proposed travel time advisory. Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said last Friday that traffic congestion is expected in 47 locations across the state, with 27 accident hotspots also identified. Approximately 700 police officers and traffic officers will be deployed to monitor major roads throughout the state, particularly at identified hotspots.
