Hyundai Malaysia Unveils New Creta SUV Teaser – Debuting Soon?

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motor (HSDM) has dropped a new teaser for the all-new Hyundai Creta SUV. Posted via its official Facebook page, this is the second time the South Korean automaker teases its latest B-SUV fighter, with the previous one taking place earlier this year alongside the Ioniq 6 EV.

As always, nothing much can be derived from this shadow-draped teaser image, except for the illuminating taillights design and the vague silhouette of the car itself. Both these details are enough to decipher that this shadow-cloaked model is the all-new Creta, in spite HSDM did not explicitly mention the model name in the teaser.

Launched globally back in 2019, the second-gen Creta is developed specially for emerging markets in Asia, with Indonesia being the first ASEAN country to officially assemble them for the regional markets. With Thailand also getting the Indo-built Creta, it is possible that we might also be getting the same spec as our two neighbouring markets.

While the Kona remains as the marque’s ‘true’ B-segment SUV option with a sporty edge and EV variant, the Creta sits alongside it as an exclusively ICE-powered ‘B-Plus’ SUV segment, poised to go against the likes of Honda HR-V and Proton X50 in our local market. For comparison, the Creta measures 4,315 MM long, which makes it 100 MM longer than the Kona (4,215 MM).

The Indonesian-built Creta, cordially known as the SU2id, is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cyl Smartstream mill that delivers 113 HP and 144 NM as standard. Arriving in four trim levels, the Creta also comes with either the marque’s proprietary Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT) or a six-speed manual gearbox – the latter only available in the Indonesian market.

Visually, the Creta boasts a typical boxy SUV silhouette, with a slew of design cues derived from other current-gen Hyundai models, notably its bigger SUV sibling, the Palisade. From the front angle, the Creta sports the same cascading grille design as the Palisade, flanked by the segmented LED DRLs, with the actual headlights being mounted on the lower part of the bumper.

At the rear, the Creta sports a very distinctive combination LED taillights design, featuring two split components. And just like any other SUVS, it also comes with matte black-hued underbody cladding, as well as some silver-hued skid plate placed on the lower part of the rear bumper.

Across the board, the ASEAN-bound Creta comes standard with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), as well as Hyundai’s SmartSense advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). This includes features such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane-Keep Assist (LKA) with Lane Centring Assist, Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with collision avoidance, as well as door opening warning.

As for the equipment list, the upmarket variant of the Creta offered in Thailand is primed with a 10.25-inch digital drivers’ display, 8-inch infotainment display, 17-inch alloy wheels, as well as LED headlights with Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), to name a few.

For now, HSDM has yet to unveil when the launch of this new model will take place, let alone the pricing and booking commencement date. For reference, the Creta starts from IDR 291.3 million to 408.3 million (RM86,138 to RM120,736) for the Indonesian market, while the Thai-bound ones are priced from THB 949,000 to THB 999,000 (RM121,804 to RM128,222).
