This Is The Way – Mandalorian-themed VW ID.Buzz Surfaces

Mandalorian-themed VW ID.Buzz showcased during the recent 2023 Star Wars Celebration Europe event.

During the recent 2023 Star Wars Celebration Europe event, Volkswagen took to the stage and showed off a new Mandalorian-inspired ID.Buzz. This latest addition to the German automaker’s special fleet of Star Wars-inspired vehicles is primed with plenty of little touches that nod to the much-lauded show.

Representatives from both Lucasfilm and VW were on hand at during the convention to detail this latest build. Alexandra Von Schaewen, creative project manager with Volkswagen worked alongside with Lucasfilm’s VP and creative director Doug Chiang to create the vehicle.

Shiny pieces are meant to mimic the qualities of the fictional Beskar steel from the show.

The result sees this ID.Buzz blending themes from both the Disney-exclusive miniseries with the Star Wars prequel trilogy thanks to Chiang who, as it turns out, happens to be the designer the Naboo N-1 Starfighter from said film series.

These influences are clear through the shiny Beskar-coloured pieces this people-carrying EV dons, along with the bright yellow stripe and wheel inserts. “We treat our vehicles with a lot of character and personality, and the ID.Buzz is a terrific character,” said Chiang.

Mudhorn signet is the same symobl donned by the show's titular character Din Djarin on his armour.

“If you look at the front, there’s a terrific, warm, inviting face. So it seemed natural that we would merge the two iconic brands together, and for me, trying to imbue the N-1 aesthetic into the car was just brilliant,” added the designer whilst detailing the ID.Buzz that he and Volkswagen built.

Von Schaewen echoed Chiang’s thoughts, calling out her favorite part in the EV’s wheels. “I personally like the rims, because it really shows that we not only focused on the color but really go into detail. We have the mud horn logo in the rims,” said Von Schaewen.

Mudhorn signet is also present in the centre caps of the striking wheels this VW ID.Buzz rolls on.

This latest effort follows up from Volkswagen’s past collaboration with the Star Wars franchise that birthed two other ID.Buzz builds that were showcased during the premier of yet another Disney-exclusive Star Wars miniseries called Obi-Wan Kenobi.

For said past project, VW showed off two distinctively different ID.Buzz builds, one inspired by the ‘Light Side’, and the other by its opposing ‘Dark Side’ theme from the beloved sci-fi franchise. This new Mandalorian-themed offshoot appears almost identical to those vehicles, in fact.
